Suspension Notes

Kown history: This car was aquired from a freind who was moving overseas. This car was bought new by his mother and stared it's life in New Jersey where it was driven most all of it's miles. It was transported to texas at some point and was trailered to AZ where I picked it up. When I got it it had not been driven for over 14 years needed some attention before startup. The engine was free and it rolled . I changed out all the fluids, rebuilt the carbs, installed a new water pump and replaced one wheel cylinder. After taking care lubricatring the cylinders etc before startup and moving the battery to the trunk it started right up. It runs wonderfully. The carbs are not tuned perfectly. I did the best I could with instructions from a repair manual. Where I live is very unapropriate for this car. It needs to be garaged. I live way out in the country and for me to get to the pavement is a 12 mile ride over bad dirt roads. This is a road car and it takes me aroud an hour crawling over the dirt roads to get to the pavement, so I have decided to sell it as I can not get the enjoyment I want from it. I have taken the following pictures to describe the car as fully as possible. It could be restored or lightly fixed up or just enjoyed as is. It is a runner all right. More decriptions will follow with the pictures.

The front ground piece is distorted from parkig curbs etc. Could be straitened out.  There is a slight crinkle on the hood which you can not see here. It is i the area of the arrow

There are wear marks in the paint on the trunk. Looks like from either stuff tied down or cover straps or something.

the car is strait. Real spoke wheels and tubes in the tires. 3 new tires. Miss-matched. two of the new ones match.

there is rust showig under the chrome trim and various places on the body

The electric system is all original and very simple. It is the easiest car I have ever worked on.  Normal 12 V Neg ground.  Four fuses take car of the entire car. Everything working except for the side marker lights. Wiring isulation wrapping is disintegrating at various places on the harness. Some of the conections have corrosion which I noticed in the trunk and someone had done some cutting and twisting at some of the fixtures.

Engine and car has 47 K. I would strip off the smog pump to neaten up the engine compartment. It is very clean. Looks like the valve cover gasket is leaking a little. Once warmed up, temp stays constant at midpoint and oil pressure is at the top of the gauge. Very good performace and very good gas milage if driven conservatively. The entire drive train is nice and tight.

If you do not like the wooden wheel, the original leather wheel comes with the car.  Everythig in the dash works. It is very dusty in this picture. No cracks on dash. Blinker switch "click" is broken, but the switch works.  The car did not come with keys. The mother of the guy I bough from could not find them. I installed the ignition switch shown to the left of the radio under dash leaving wiring intact for putting back on the colum. It works fine and all hooked up properly with accessory position  ect. The triangular piece of metal I made will unbolt -one bolt. I used steering colum bolt to afix it on there.  No extra holes. door panels are in bad shape because the backing material (masonite) got wet and disintegrated partly. I have the vinly for the drivers side and remainder of backing.

new wiper blades. Wipers work fine.  Radio antenea needs tightening up or replaced if seized. . Lost the ground I think. Radio reception is poor. Probably rusty around the hole.

lifting up the floor mat show rust on the floor boards.  I rubbed the rust with my hand and showing result before vacuming. Needs stripping and treatment. this also shows the worn door gasket.  it came apart where one slips foot into and out of the car

They make replacement panel for this area called the dog leg. The small panels are  $32 a side from Brittek. I will give the full catolog from this company which has every nut and bolt and part on the car as well as a repair manual I purchased. This is the typical MGB cancer spot. This is the passenger side.

Drivers side. Inner panels are rusty but not rotted through behind this area both sides.

suface rust in trunk and make shift battery installation. The car comes with a spare wheel and it fits in here.

drivers seat defect.

passenger seat thread failure.

passenger side crack under wing window.

The only real dent in the car. Looks like the half bumper was replaced.  also shown is paint falure on top of fender.

Hey, it comes with a hard top too!

and another wheel which is leather over metal and in almost perfect shape

and this new bow (rag top down position) cover which needs cleaning

ad this new zippered Tonneau Cover which also needs cleaning.

There is scattered minor surface rust in various places like shown on the front of this door.

Soft top needs work or replacement. It has shrunk a little I think. there are a couple of tears and the window glass is junk. New glass could be stitched in and a couple of small repairs made or just use it on clear days and take the thing off, and use the tonneau cover if you have a garage which makes more sence to me for this car anyhow. The frame is all there but not in it's proper position here. There is another bow which is not in position which holds the rear window tight.

Suspension notes

Front end is tight, but the tires are mis-matched. Alignment is probably off. It has slight tracking issues at higher speeds like over 70 mph. The front shocks seem OK but I do not have prior experience to know if they are 100% as I have nothing to compare to. It handles/corners very good.  I would start with matched tires (two on the car are new and match) and alignment and perhaps tighten up the rack with the adjustment it has to get the thing to track perfect at high speeds. I got the thing running great, but am through working on it as I have too much else to do.
