Data Share Options
Due to the sheer number of requests I receive for additional information in my databases, I have decided to institute a few new options and procedures. It has been, and always will be, my intention to assist fellow genealogists with their research and to make all information readily available to others. However, in all fairness, this often requires valuable time and has resulted in an all-take and no-give situation from some.
From the start, my effort has been to collect as much data as possible about the Irish and German families of America and to share that data with others. The data is slowly and steadily coming together. To insure its continual growth, the following policy is now in effect. It assumes that most interested individuals have a genealogy program of some sort installed on their computer and have entered their current family data into that program. It also assumes that you know about Descendant Charts, Family Group Sheets and Gedcom files, even if you have yet to create one using your current program. It also assumes that all "Source" citations have been entered for your current data.
OPTION ONE:
Email attachment is the preferred method of exchange. All data must contain submitter's full contact information, source citations for all facts, events and dates and all related notes. Submitters agree that their data will be included in the Ohio Irish and German Families database on the Rootsweb server. Data will be exchanged as received. If you send a Family Group Sheet (FGS) you will receive a FGS in return. I will update all files with my current data and return the revised FGS to you. Likewise, a Gedcom file will get you an updated Gedcom file and a Descendant Chart will be returned as a new Descendant Chart with all known data included. If a Descendant Chart is preferred, there may be costs involved due to time elements. Gedcom files are the best method of data exchange. Please note that information available at my website is not always current or consistent with my master database file. Even though your ancestors may not be listed at my website, additions to my master database are frequent and other links may be available.
Again, it is important that all source citations and note fields are included with your submission. Source citations allow others to verify your work while note fields can offer additional research clues. It is the responsibility of the submitter to edit these items to an appropriate level. When exact matches are not found within family lines, I will send data on matching names, surnames and/or locations deemed appropriate as possible links. If you would prefer to snail mail your family data and related documentation, please find my postal address at the end of this text.
All submissions must include your full name with email and snail mail addresses. Your mailing address is kept confidential and used only for future contact should your email address change and/or new and extensive data become available on your listed families. Your email address may be given to others for contact with you regarding related family lines. All data on living persons will be deleted from all exchanges with the word "Private" substituted.
OPTION TWO:
Should you care not to submit your own data, you may purchase Family Group Sheets, Descendant Charts or Gedcom files directly. Family Group Sheets are $7, prices for Descendant Charts are based on the number of pages while Gedcom file costs vary depending on work involved. Gedcom files are the most complete but also the most difficult to prepare as they must be "split" from within my master database. There is no guarantee on how much data is available. While some family data and files will be extensive, others may currently contain very little. It is strongly urged that you prepare your data to meet the criteria in Option One and submit it for an update before purchasing any of the above items. Should you need help or advice on data preparation, please request a free copy of Tips and Tricks for Data Entry or use the button in my email reply.
To order any of the above items, use the Genealogy Reports page in our online store or send your personal check or money order, payable to Dennis Murphy, to the address found below. Be sure to include the full names of both spouses and their database numbers as found in the Surname List or on the Dart Room page of my website.
OPTION THREE:
Two decades of research into many Irish and German families of America has resulted in several of my own publications and databases. These items are now available as aides for fellow genealogists. My publications and databases are unique, one-of-a-kind and copyright items. They are available only through my website, Murphy's Public House. Databases list all available information except for those items deemed "Private." Should you wish to conduct your own research, I recommend that you visit the Carry-Out Store for a review of the current offerings at Murphy's Public House.
Again, thank you for your interest in my work. I hope that we can help each other in the near future. In the meantime, be sure to explore my website, Murphy's Public House, and review my latest free databases on the Menu and Dart Room pages.
