About Cherry Ridge Farm

The first Brown to work on the farm started after his car broke down during his honeymoon and he didn’t have the money to fix it or get back home.  At the time, it was a chicken farm, but he eventually bought it, converted to fruit, and settled down.  He passed the farm to his son Donald, who passed it on to his son George.

The orchards are cared for by George (with help from his kids).  After being picked, fruit is sorted and packed for sale, then stored in the cooler.  Sweet cherries are mainly sold out of the stand in the barn.  Red sour cherries (Mount Morency) are sold mainly frozen and pitted, though some are sold fresh and some are available for pick-your-own.  Black sours (English Morello) are only sold as a pick-your-own, but they can be pitted here.

Peaches, apricots, and nectarines are sold mainly wholesale, but some are sold in baskets out of the barn, and we also have some pick-your-own.

Apples, pears, and plums are sold pick-your-own early in the season, then later we convert to wholesale.  Some are also sold out of the barn—plums in season, and apples and pears through the first of the year.

Over time, our farm has been featured in multiple postcards, paintings, calendars, and even an apple cinnamon cheerios commercial!

Boston has been picking fruit for Cherry Ridge for years—and hopefully will continue to do so!  It’s always good to have workers you trust.

Dorothy has been helping on the farm since her marriage to Donald in 1950.

Lee and Donald Brown pose with their brand new truck—a personalized truck is definitely something to be proud of!  This picture has hung in our office so long we were afraid it might not survive being scanned in—but it has, and will continue to hang in our office for years to come.
